Buyer's Tips

Make a smart, safe purchase on whereverart.com by following these tips.

Do your research. Learn all you can about your chosen art. Read the description carefully; understand all the details about shipping, insurance and payment options and please avoid making assumptions about details that aren't included in the description.

Begin your research by visiting the Artist's portfolio pages. Knowing the full range of the Artist's work helps you understand each individual piece in its proper context. The more you learn about the Artist the more it will help you in the long run, checkout the Artist profile before investing and get information on

i) where the artist lives and works.

ii) organizations, art clubs the artist belongs to.

iii) galleries, museums, or institutions where the artist has exhibited art either in solo shows or in group shows with other artists. Because the more significant the collections that own the artist's art, the more important the artist tends to be.

iv) awards, prizes, grants, and honors that the artist has received. Because the greater the number of exhibits, awards, and other career accomplishments that the artist has, the better.

v) publications that mention the artist such as books, catalogues, newspapers, magazines, and so on.

Information like these always gives a reasonable idea of who the artist is and how significant his or her accomplishments are. Knowing how to assess an artist's career becomes increasingly important the more expensive the art is that you're thinking about buying. The more art costs, the more respected and established the artist should be.

Ask questions. If you have any questions or are unsure about something, ask the seller or contact the Helpdesk via helpdesk@whereverart.com

Determine the maximum you're willing to pay for your chosen piece of art. Take into consideration how much you want the artwork, how difficult it will be for you to find another one and how soon you need it, and determine the highest price you are willing to pay. Don't get carried away with an auction and end up bidding more than your budget. Also make sure you take into account the shipping costs. Remember one thing your bid is a legally binding contract to buy the item should you win.

In some situations, a bid may be retracted (cancelled). You can retract your bid for the following reasons:

Restriction: Whereverart.com will thoroughly investigate reports of invalid bid retractions. Abuse of this feature may result in the suspension of your account.

Bid carefully - retractions are rarely allowed. When you are the winning bidder, you are obligated to pay the high-bid price for the item. As a rule, the retracting of bids is allowed in Exceptional Circumstances Only on whereverart.com. These are if:

i) You accidentally entered the wrong bid amount. If this occurs, enter the correct bid amount immediately after you retract your bid. If you do not place another bid, the retraction will be in violation of whereverart.com's policy and could result in your suspension.

ii) The description of an item you have bid on has changed significantly after you placed your bid.

Note: Bid retractions only apply to auction format listings. There is no equivalent for bid retraction in buyNOW listings. Once you've confirmed your purchase, you are obligated to pay the seller. If you have used the buyNOW option by accident, you should e-mail the seller immediately by using the "Ask Seller a Question" link from the listing page. You should explain what happened and ask if the seller is willing to cancel your buying obligation. Only the seller is able to do this.

Bidding checklist. If you are bidding for the first time this checklist will help you to remember the most important points about bidding and buying.

i) You can use the search option at the top on the buy art page and select your favorite art or alternatively you can click on the listed image to view the listing in detail.

ii) Read the item descriptions carefully and if you still require any more information you can ask the seller by clicking on the link situated at the bottom.

iii) Check if the listed image has a buyNOW option.

iv) Click on the Bid now/Buy now button to initiate the bidding/buying process. But for that you'll have to be a registered member first.

v) Carefully check the current bid amount and the end time of the listing before bidding. Please remember once you confirm your purchase or bid you are entering a binding contact with the Artist to buy his/her art.

vi) Please read the "Buyer Agreement" and select the 'Notify me if someone bids higher than my bid' checkbox before hitting the submit button.

vii) You'll get a notification e-mail as soon as you win your bid. Clicking on the link that comes with the mail starts the Checkout proceedings at the website. You can make payment through PayPal or go in for other options.

Buying with "buyNOW"
buyNOW is the simplest way to buy on whereverart.com. It allows you to buy an item at fixed price. When you see the "buyNOW" icon next to a listing you will get the opportunity to purchase the item right away without waiting for an online auction to end.

Remember
You will get an e-mail from us as soon as the auction for which you are bidding ends. The e-mail will have all you need to know about payment for your item/s etc, and upon receiving your payment we will send you a confirmation mail and let you know the date of dispatch of your item. Please respond to our end of auction e-mail as soon as possible but certainly within 3 days. If you have any question regarding our auctions please don't hesitate to e-mail us.

We expect to receive payment within 7 days after an auction has ended. If we do not receive payment by that time we will send you an e-mail reminder, and after expiry of 10 days from the auction end date we will cancel your bid and award it to the next in line.
